Biography > Billie Joe

Billie was born on 17th February 1972 in Rodeo,California, the youngest of six children. His first experience of performing was at the age of five, when he was made to sing for patients at hospitals and hospices.
His father was a truck driver for Safeway supermarket, who also played drums in a jazz band. He died of cancer when Billie Joe was ten. Billie's mother started waitressing at Rod's Hickory Pit and remarried a couple of years later.
The first record Billie Joe bought was Elvis Presley's "Sun Sessions" - his mother was a big Elvis fan. He first got into rock, and then punk rock, from listening to tapes with two brothers whose father lived in Billie Joe's street.
When Billie and Mike first started playing guitar, they would play cover versions of rock anthems, but soon became bored and decided to write their own songs. The first song Billie wrote was "Why do you Want Him?" when he was 12.
Billie Joe married his girlfriend Adrienne in July 1994. Their first son, Joseph Marciano, was born in March 1995 and their second, Jakob Danger, in 1998.
